The match against the Taverners took place at Woking GC rather than the historic venue of The Berkshire GC. Woking made us very welcome and for the first time in a long while we were able to enter and eat in the Clubhouse. The weather was blustery with showers but it did not detract from the occasion.
This year the Taverners sent a strong youthful team and insisted on playing off the whites in the morning which meant we were up against it from the start and were well down at lunch. After refreshment, with the essential lubrication, the afternoon performance (off the yellows) was decidedly better, but not sufficient to turn things around. The Taverners carried the day 6-4.
A really good day and well done to the Taverners! Pictures below show the prize giving of the Berkshire Hip Flask to the Lord’s Taverners match manager, Peter Edwards, by XLGS Captain Doug Adams.
Best wishes,
Stewart Smith, Match Manager
