The weather was set fair for our match versus the China Golf Society at North Hants GC on Tuesday 12th October. Past Captain Doug Adams led the team out and you can see the result sheet which was not in our favour this year.
CGS were delighted to inform us that this was their 18th victory in, believe it or not, 60 matches. Apparently 7 have been drawn so you can do the maths with the rest. We did, indeed, slide to a narrow defeat but the last match went to the final putt on the 18th. so you can deduce it was a close run thing! It was a glorious day for the time of year and the hospitality of North Hants was excellent, as always.
As a way of explaining our way out of this, it should be noted that we played with a team 1 man short. Richard Freedman’s intended partner, John Sharpe, left home at 07h00 for a drive which normally takes him about 45 minutes. He gave up the effort at 11h00, still stuck on the M25 at a point which is only about 15 minutes normal driving from his home. We thank him for his patience and his valiant effort and hope he can find a different route next year when he has been promised a place in the team. As noted above, Richard held on until the final putt, but it was asking just too much!
Best regards,
Maurice Hazzard, Match Manager
