The Forty Club Golfing Society v The Lucifer Golfing Society at Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club on 6th and 7th August 2024

In accordance with the long-standing tradition of this match (first played in 1982) both teams assembled for an excellent dinner at Royal Ashdown on the evening before the game.

The 12-a-side Foursomes were played on the morning of Wednesday 7th followed by a splendid lunch at the club.

Royal Ashdown was in fabulous condition but despite that, the result was a marginally disappointing 4½ to 1½ victory for the Lucifers.

Apparently, a couple of the Lucifer wins were snatched from the jaws of defeat, in the mode of current GB Olympic athletes!

At the Lunch, the XLGS Club Captain, Chris Greet handed over the trophy for the Match, The Robert Lee Memorial Quaich, to The Lucifer Captain, Mark Dumas.( see pic).

The match was the last under George Meakin, who had been the Match Manager since 2018. George was thanked for his efforts and will be handing over to Nick Hercules.

George trusts that Forty Club Members will afford Nick the support he deserves!
