Match Report XLGS vs Lord’s Taverners Tuesday 14th November at Woking GC

After many comings and goings, a postponement earlier in the year and team changes, the day finally arrived. Two last minute drop outs for the XL Club didn’t help the cause, but the Taverners allowed the temporary transfer of one of theirs, Tony Pinn who is also a XL Club member, so that we could take the field at 11 a side. Richard Willacy and Dominic Thurlow-Wood as proper golfers led the way as a singles and the rest of us followed playing 4BBB. All was fine for the first couple of holes until the rains came, and they came and they came. By the time the second group got to the 14th and the last to the 10th, play was abandoned as the greens were waterlogged. Meanwhile the singles very creditably completed 18 holes. We repaired to the bar and the usual excellent Woking lunch after which the rain finally stopped. With some minor arm wrestling the matched was deemed “halved” even though the Club was technically down at the time of abandonment. At least we managed to avoid defeat in the last match of the season! Thanks to all who braved the conditions.
