Geoff Wyborn: 1938 – 2022

Geoff Wyborn sadly passed away in his sleep on 2nd September after a short illness.  He was a man of many talents. He had degrees in Economics, Statistics and Mathematical Modelling. He worked in the aircraft industry after leaving university but was then drawn into academia where he became a professor specialising in the multi-variate statistical analysis of data. He was also the author of a variety of books, manuals and articles on Applied Statistics, Market Research and Management Science Methods.

Apart from being a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and a former Examiner for London University, he had a variety of hobbies. He played cricket for Dorset before moving to the London area and had been a member of the MCC but resigned in protest at the tour of South Africa. He became of member of the XL Golf Society in 1979 and he was a single figure golfer from the early 70s until recently. Geoff was proud of the fact he only ever had one golf lesson to understand how the game was played. He was a member at West Hill, Malden and finally Burhill, where he was made an honorary member in 2017. At Malden, his name appears on most of the honours board and he was Scratch Champion there in 1980. He was captain of the XL Golfing Society in 1989/90 and made an honorary life member in 2014. He was also a member of the Gophers Golfing Society and in fact ran it for some years. His other hobbies included mountain walking, the theatre and classical music. In recent years, he took up bridge, which gave him hours of enjoyment.

Geoff was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
