Forty Club Golfing Society – Winter/Xmas Meeting
Thirty members and six guests mustered at Cuddington Golf Club, Banstead, on 5th December, a warm and overcast morning. The preceding days had seen some pretty wet weather and heavy rain had fallen overnight, so those unfamiliar with the course probably wondered whether their journeys would prove abortive, but the chalk terrain worked its magic and the going was just on the soft side of perfect with the greens running reasonably fast for the time of year.
The competition was better ball pairs stableford, playing for the Lowe Cup and various other prizes. The benign conditions were reflected in the exceptional scoring, with only two pairs returning less than 36 points and nine pairs with 40 or more points, playing off 90% of course handicaps.
Lunch was taken at 2.30 following which our Captain Mike Johnson-Hill presented prizes, assisted for the Lowe Cup itself by Tony Lowe.

Dope tests were requested at the subsequent stewards’ enquiry into the winning score which comprised 24 points on each half!
Next year we have reserved Thursday 4th December.
