Match Report vs Royal Navy Golf Society at West Byfleet GC on September 2nd

In dreek conditions akin to the North Atlantic the Fleet turned up with their front line men’o war. Not to be cowed, a strong(ish) XL team started the day well but unfortunately that was as good as it got with several holes below the waterline causing a 4 – 1 defeat!! What made it even more stinging was the fact that we had to rely on an honorary brown job (colonel to some) to score our winning point alongside our Secretary.
It was a little disappointing that we only had 10 aside  as in keeping with the alarming loss of frontline ships the RN could muster no more players despite our agreeing to try a new less expensive venue at West Byfleet (perhaps it was this name that caused the advantage to start with the RN!?).  The course was presented well and although a lesser challenge than many we play it was quite satisfactory for this fixture.  After-match rations went down well and the staff were very welcoming.  Our aim must be to try and increase numbers to 12 aside next year and give the venue another try. Oh, and to broadside the opposition as we have tended to do in the past!
