Michael Lee 1952-2024
Michael Lee was born in 1952 in Ipswich. He married Julie in 1973 at Moor Park Golf Club and later they had three daughters: Charlotte, Georgina, and Rebecca. They lived most of their married lives in Buckinghamshire ( Bierton / Mentmore / Adstock ) but in 2017 they moved to the Cotswolds.
Michael’s career involved being ‘sent to the City’ immediately after school where he started as a bluebutton with Greenwells . His career in the city further progressed as a gilts trader with Harvey & Ross, then to Cater Ryder and latterly to Cater Allen as a director, retiring at 55 .
Michael enjoyed a full sporting life in cricket and later golf. His cricketing career started at the age of 14 when he joined Pinner Cricket Club and soon muscled his way into the position of 1st XI keeper where he played until 1974 then joining the Bucks Commuters. He was a playing member of the MCC, represented the Stock Exchange and was also a Lords Taverner. Cricket in his later years involved gentle play at Ashford School.
On the golfing front he was a Member at Woburn, Ashridge and Rye, played for the MCC and was a Member of the Forty Club Golfing Society where he was Captain in 2015-16.
XLGS will always remember Mike as a very genial and keen supporter of the society with an easy going manner which was underpinned by his determination to play golf as well as he possibly could. When he captained the Society Mike was notoriously shy about having to speak at events, however, when he did speak he never let us down and was always entertaining.
Mike’s passing has been more devastating for the family since the recent loss of Julie too and our sincere condolences have been passed on.
The family have advised of the details of a service to celebrate Michael’s life as follows:
