Match Report vs Lords Taverners at West Hill GC on May 9th

West Hill GC

The day of the match at West Hill GC duly arrived with surprisingly no last minute changes. The weather was set fair with a cloudless sky and shirtsleeves and shorts the order of the day for many.

The XL Club team were pumped up and ready to go at the allotted hour after the bacon rolls. Most matches were close, not least the organiser, with Paul Obey as an illustrious partner, being 4 up after nine but managing to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and 1 down at the close! A mention in dispatches has to be for Greet & Lowe who destroyed the opposition.

Given that the match was one round of 4BBB the training regime had obviously proved less than adequate – a team of 1½ milers had been selected rather than 6 furlong sprinters and in the end the Taverners were sufficiently motivated to hold on to the esteemed Trophy, the “silver” unengraved hipflask, running out winners 4-2.

West Hill was in excellent condition and needless to say the Club looked after us very well. Notwithstanding the result a good day was had by all and many thanks to those who supported.
