New Season’s Greetings To All XLGS Members

Dear Member,

I want to start my New Year message by saying a huge thank you to last year’s Captain, Steve Barton.  Steve had a very successful year keeping the Society on the straight and narrow and I know he enjoyed his captaincy.  Congratulations to Mike Johnson-Hill on being elected as Vice-Captain and many thanks to the committee for the continued work they do to keep the Society running smoothly.

I’m pleased to announce that the 2024 calendar is now live on the web site and open to sign up.  We are extremely lucky to have such a strong fixture list, mostly at top 100 courses.  Please sign up as soon as possible for as many fixtures as you can make.  However, before signing up, do check that there are no clashes with important family events, etc – drop outs are a real nuisance for Match Managers!

Match Managers do an excellent job in running these fixtures and maintaining relationships with Clubs who have increasing pressure from members who want to play more golf.  I would particularly like to thank new Match Mangers Lance Taylor (Kent Tour) and Daryn Williams (MCC Quadrangular) for volunteering, and also Ian Edwards who has kindly taken over the China GS fixture following the illness and recent passing of Maurice Hazzard.

A number of new members joined the Society in 2023 so I would like you to give a warm welcome to: Stuart Adams, Peter Oakes, James Sheldrake, Anthony Green, John Scurlock-Davies, Mark Welsh, Peter Salmon, Kim Gifford, David Roddy, Roy Grey, David Wythe, Craig Stow, Mike Parkinson, Paul Shepherd, Nicholas Hercules and Josh Owen.  I hope I have the opportunity, with the help of Match Managers, to play with as many of you as possible during my year. Unlike some golf clubs where the same members play in every match, XL Match Managers try to select a couple of new players in each fixture.

In the meantime, I wish everyone in the Forty Club Golfing Society a very happy and successful 2024, both on and off the golf course.

Chris Greet,

Captain,  The Forty Club Golfing Society
