The Passing of Past-Captain Geoff Richards

Geoffrey Stanley Richards

It is with sadness and regret that we  announce the death of Geoff Richards.  He joined the XL club as a cricketer on 30thJune 1992 and was proposed by Colin Watkins who described Geoff as a “good all round cricketer”.  On application he described himself as a Chartered Accountant and that his then Cricket Club was Botany Bay!

He later joined our XL Golf Society and was the Captain in 2001-2.  By then he had moved to Kent and was a keen follower of that County’s cricket team. His daughter was an excellent cricketer and at the forefront of the rise of women’s cricket.

As a golfer he was a very reliable mid-teens handicapper, wonderful tourist and a most popular companion. Never short of a smile and a laugh he thoroughly enjoyed his time with us. His club golf was at the Neville GC where he generously hosted his Captain’s day and tested the mental agility of all by playing a yellow ball format.

He was also a senior Gopher with that Society which has close links to the XLGS.

We will miss him and send our condolences to Mel his wife and the rest of his family.
