This long running fixture was played in glorious sunshine and shirt-sleeve weather on a day sandwiched between days of torrential downpours. The course had held up well and was well presented as was the reception from the Club and meal after play.
A 12-aside match allowed for all combinations of results but perhaps the most equitable was achieved in a 3 – 3 draw. This allowed both teams to look forward to a tight match next year. Regrettably N Hants will be in the middle of extensive course work when we wish to play in 2024 and we are in the process of sourcing another venue. By chance, Mike Lake, who has run this fixture for the opposition, is standing down and the new China man (Dominic Boyle) is a member at West Surrey where we may well be able to play next year. Watch out for the outcome when we go live on the website with next year’s fixtures.
I would also like to thank Maurice Hazzard for all his work organising this fixture over recent years, despite not always playing. Regrettably he has been unable to do so this year and remains in hospital. We all wish him a speedy and full recovery
David Lancaster, Match Manager of the day
