Denham provided the venue for our annual match against the MCC and we are most grateful for all the organisation done by Pete Crowcroft with finances, tee times and lunch arrangements.
The course was in excellent condition and much work has been done on renovating existing bunkers and creating new ones along with some judicious felling which has opened up some beautiful vistas.
A three course lunch followed by cheese and coffee was taken with the score at 3 -3. However, much fortified by some rather acceptable Albariño and Rioja the XL club stirred themselves to action and prevailed 5 – 1 in the afternoon to record a top class 8 – 4 win to commemorate the last match as 2023 captain of Steve Barton. We thank him for all his efforts on our behalf during the season.
It was good to meet old friends from the MCC and we agreed that in the absence of Royal Porthcawl being available next year (unlikely) we would love to go back to Denham should they agree to have us.
Finally, it was great to see Jeremy Lowe back out representing the XL club off a single figure handicap at 83 and recording two wins.
