The weather for the second edition of this revived fixture fortunately did not repeat the steamy conditions of last year, although a little less drizzle would have been preferable.
We started with a traditional brunch to refresh those travelling from “the smoke” or the seaside to rural Oxfordshire. The early groups (including myself) did not react quickly enough, leaving the later XL pairs to make the score a more respectable 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 win for Frilford Heath.
Julian Shellard, Frilford’s non-playing captain, kept us updated with the score in the Second Ashes Test.
It was good to have some newer members playing- Mike Halls, Nick Ray, Kim Gifford and Anthony Green -along with familiar faces. Thanks also go to late sub Mike Hamment.
A very relaxed and sociable afternoon was rounded off with tea and the chef’s excellent chocolate and/or lemon cake.
