Royal Cinque Ports was in splendid condition. The XL flag on the mast was nearly horizontal and the rough was thick and lush! Despite fielding a strong team of athletes, we were unable to overpower the local team.
A slightly warmer wind was blowing at Littlestone the next day. The rough was also in good condition and the fairways were running fast. The great news was that Littlestone could field a team this year (rather than playing amongst ourselves) thanks to Stephen Chappell, which made the day even better. Sadly, we couldn’t overcome local expertise and knowledge.
In both matches we went down 3½ to 2½ which is no disgrace.
Thanks to the XL team for a fun few days in Kent.
