Match Report vs Babalou GS on 11th May at West Hill GC

Vince Chandler tees off the 1st at West Hill in the first four-ball

A highly enjoyable day with honours even was the result when XLGS and the Babalou GS met in their annual tussle at West Hill GC on Thursday 11th May.

Due to a number of events the Babalou side was not it’s usual number and so messrs Lancaster and John became honorary Babalou-ers for the afternoon to allow a 10-a-side match.

The match was finely balanced and could have been very different if double-agent Rob Pike had not missed a putt on the last and thus halved that match.

Despite there being no official owner of the wine bar account both sides made sure they enjoyed the best of the West Hill wine list as always selected by master sommelier Rob Pike during a fine three course lunch, after which Babalou Captain Kim Harris toasted sad losses of recent past Captains on both sides and also absent friends. In response XLGS Captain Steve Barton thanked the organisers and staff for a wonderful day and looked forward to next year’s fixture.

Both XLGS MM and his partner in the Babalou team, Neil Palmer, are already working on new dates for 2024.
