Autumn Meeting at New Zealand GC on September 27th 2022

40 members gathered to play at New Zealand GC for the Autumn Meeting with 5 more coming to lunch for a most convivial day.

The morning round was played in cool but dry weather. Alan Ewart and Mike Halls played some sparkling golf to score 38 points (reduced to 37 on handicap revision) to win and retain the Seager Tumblers.
The runners up were Ronald Beaney and Tony Metcalfe on 34 points.

The afternoon round saw the occasional shower but that did not stop the enjoyment.
Stephen Holland and Finbarr O’Connor (the latter substituting for Michael Firman) gelled well together to score 38 points and win the Hobbs and Sutcliffe Bowls.
The runners up were Ian Edwards and Stuart Southall on 34 points.

Many congratulations go to the overall winners of the day – the legendary pairing of Alistair Defriez and Simon Davies who picked up the much coveted prize of the Roles and Stollery Salvers.

Prizes were presented to all winners by outgoing Captain, Peter Crowcroft seen in the images below.

Members will be interested to know XL Club archive material and photographs were brought in by Peter Crowcroft. One highlight from a match report noted the opening tee shots by Mr. Ken Barrington and Mr. Richie Benaud witnessed by the starter, Mr.Jack Hobbs ! It’s humbling to know that our predecessors were so distinguished.
