A real treat lay in store for the 10 XL golfers who represented the Club against West Hill GC for the 2022 fixture: splendid weather, with a warm sun’s rays being tempered by a cool breeze, a course in fantastic condition and a warm welcome from our hosts. This, combined with some tasty bacon rolls to start with and a classic three-course lunch at half time, meant that (whatever the score) a great time was guaranteed!
West Hill had had their Captain’s Day the day before: so we had to deal with testing flag positions which, combined with playing from the White Tees, meant that the task ahead was a challenging one. On average the XL golfers’ handicaps were a few shots higher, so to reach lunch with scores level was no mean feat!
In the afternoon session, class came to the fore… or should we blame the claret consumption? – either way, the XL pairs had clearly given their all in the morning… The final result was a win for the West Hill team by a margin of 6 1/2 to 3 1/2.
Course looking splendid!
