The match was played this year as 10-a-side due to player availability problems and enjoyed a highly enjoyable day at West Hill Golf Club where the course was in great condition and the fine weather allowed some good golf to be played.
Myself and our Captain, Pete Crowcroft played a very competitive fourball against the Babalou GS Captain (and Hon. Sec and MM) Neil Palmer along with Geoff Marchesi who had us 3 holes down at the ‘half way hut’ after the 12th but we managed to share a half in the end. However the rest of the pairings came in with resounding wins to post a winning score of 4.5 to 0.5. Bringing up the rear was new member David ‘Tidders’ Tidmarsh who shot a 79 which will certainly get the ear of Match Managers when selecting teams.
As always the match was played in excellent spirit with the result a secondary matter – but the Babalou match is different as the losing team plays for the wine over lunch, something XLGS have done over recent matches but this reversed the trend.
We look forward to the fixture next year which will be on 18th May 2023. Book the date in your diaries now!
