The Spring Meeting took place on 13th April at Walton Heath Golf Club after a hiatus of two years. 24 pairs competed in the traditional Foursomes format, morning and afternoon in fine weather.
The winners of the Busby and Timms Bowls played for on the Old Course were Richard Willacy and Mark Welsh (G) who scored an outstanding 41 points, reduced to 39 points on handicap revision. I had the pleasure of playing with this pair morning and afternoon alongside our Captain and to witness Richard’s golf which was of an outstanding standard all day.
The runners up were Peter Edwards and Nick Taylor (G) on 35 points.
The winners of the Gardiner Goblets played for on the New Course were Peter Pennekett and David Knight with 39 points.
The runners up were Richard Freedman and John Sharp on 37 points.
The winners of the Longman Quarts, the best combined scores for morning and afternoon rounds, were Aidan Lisser and Ian Roberts (G) on 68 points.
The runners up were Vince Chandler and Brian Goode on 64 points.
Veteran ‘Whispering’ Tony Lowe was given a special ‘Captain’s Prize’ for lunches attended (or something like that!)
Images of all winners can be viewed in the Gallery.
Above all, this was a very sociable day spent in the company of fellow club members and guests. On leaving, one of the guests remarked that he had enjoyed the golf but what really stood out for him was the atmosphere of friendship and conviviality of our Society.
The Autumn Meeting takes place on Tuesday 27th September at New Zealand Golf Club. Please sign up via the website.
