The XL Club faced a stern test in their match against Hayling Golf Club on Thursday 7th April as wind speeds were in excess of 40 mph (getting our excuses in early). This was a 14 a-side 4 ball match play event, and we were only just spared a white-wash thanks to a win from Doug Adams and Chris Greet. Six points to one – we were blown away!
The Hayling were excellent company, and we enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch before playing, there was a bit of extra spice to the match as several of the Hayling members are also XL Club members including Messrs Lancaster, Page and John.
It was a new experience to play the Hayling links for several of the XL Club team. The course was in excellent condition, and there were some subtle changes from when we played in 2020, all carried out to a high standard (the 2021 match was a Covid victim).
I would like to thank the Hayling team for their wonderful hospitality, and especially David Lancaster and Rob Styles for helping organise the day. Thanks also to the XL team and here’s to a closer match next year, I’m sure it won’t be so windy.
