This is the first year we have planned the Kent Tour to coincide with the Farmers match. As in recent years, we had an excellent briefing meeting in Dunkerleys Hotel/restaurant on the evening of Monday 7th June. There was a lot to discuss and so the meeting didn’t finish until the early hours. We discussed pairings over breakfast and then travelled the 2 miles from the hotel to Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club, fully prepared and ready for battle. The course was in fantastic condition after a lot of work over lockdown. Captain Doug led the team off, bringing in the first winning point. The final result was 3.5 to 2.5 points which meant XL Club won the match for the first time in some years. Clearly the strategy meeting the night before did the trick!
On Wednesday morning we moved onto Littlestone G.C. where the sun was shining again. We played 4BBB, best two scores to count. Lee, Pennekett, O’Conner & Freedman were the winners with a score of 92.
A great two days was had by all and this year, we managed to leave some bottles of red wine in Dunkerley’s cellar! A huge thanks to the XL Team. We also managed to recruit at least one new member – Jerry Stanyard, who is the current Chairman of Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club.
